Duty
Free Goods
Unlike many other countries where duty free goods are only available at the airport, WA
law allows visitors to purchase a range of duty free goods from stores located in the
cities of Perth and Fremantle. This has resulted in stiff competition and some of the
cheapest duty free price in the world.
Two of Perth's best duty free outlets are COMPASS DUTY FREE and GATEWAY DUTY FREE, and both are conveniently located in the
centre of the city. Compass is downstairs is the Murry Street Mall. Whilst Gateway is on
the first floor of City Arcade, just over the Murray Mall from Myer.
KING STREET
This area has undergone something of a facelift over the last few years. All along the
street, what where once derelict warehousrs are now gourmet cafes and leading fashion
houses with a collective reputation for style and originality. In this one relatively
small area you can dine 24 hours in European inspired cafes, browse through specialist
music and book stores, take in some culture at indigenous and contemporary art galleries.
If you feel like listening to a local band there are friendly pubs where there is often
music on the weekends or if you want to stay out that bit later there's a choice of
nightclubs just on Murray Street, where there is plenty of entertainment

Opals are particularly popular with visitors, and vary greatly in quality and price. There
are four basic qualities to look for in opals: colour, brilliance, pattern and clarity.

farmed all over the State, it is hardly surprising that sheepskin is sold here at highly
competitive prices. Another plus is that sheepskin products are light - a blessing for
those who are already worry about their luggage weight limit. One of Perth's longest
established sheepskin retailers, Wombat Lodge, is open seven days a week and stocks the
famous uggboots as well as a full range of Australian sheepskin and kangaroo products,
handmade knitwear, gifts and souvenirs.
