Everyday Shopping
Brisbane offers shoppers the convenience of shopping every day of the week in the city
centre. Suburban shopping centres are open six days a week while at the weekend you can
explore arts and crafts markets at various locations including Eagle Street in the City
and South Bank Parklands.
City Centre
Most of the city's shopping focuses around the colourful Queen Street Mall - a broad
pedestrain precinct with more than 500 shops to explore. It stretches between George St.
and Edward St. and extends out into Albert St. The Mall is a hub of activity with street
performers entertaining the crowds and the aroma of fresh coffee wafting out of busy
pavement cafes.
Some of Australia's most stylish shopping arcades and galleries lead off from the Mall,
the largest is the Myer Centre with department stores and over 200 specialty shops, cafes,
dining court and food hall. Opposite the Myer Centre, the new Queen Adelaide Building
offers some up-market designer boutiques and interior shops.
Broadway on the Mall is a fresh modern gallery, its sky lit mezzanine levels are filled
with interesting boutiques and cafes while opposite the Wintergarden has over 150 stores
that concentrate on fashion. And in the heritage Brisbane Arcade you can discover a touch
of yesteryear with the fashions of today. |

Indooroopilly Shopping Town, Logan Hyper Market, Carindale, Toombul and Chermside Shopping

Gifts and Souvenirs
Home grown delicacies, sparkling opals, bush fashions and suthentic Aboriginal arts
including paintings, boomerangs and didgeridoos, make ideal gifts and souvenirs available
from specialist Australiana stores in the city. Or indulge in some internationally
renowned luxuries at gift shops including Victoria's Gifts. In addition to the city gift
stores, many fo the major attractions and some resorts also offer an excellent range of
Australian gifts.
Australia produces most of the world's opals and some of the finest are mined in
Queensland. Their luminous colours reflect the Queensland landscape - the reds and ochres
of the Outback, the rich greens of the rainforests and the brilliant blues of our coral
reefs. Brisbane has several excellent opal shops including Quilpie Opals and Bensons of
Brisbane in the Queen Street Mall. International visitors can purchase opals at tax free
prices. |
